Whygo2 Kuala Lumpur?
Letsgo2 employees have travelled extensively to the destinations we feature. Here are the five reasons why they would consider a visit to Kuala Lumpur.
Culture
Kuala Lumpur is the largest city in Malaysia, with a population of over 1.3 million. Malays, Chinese and Indians comprise the main races among others in this multicultural backdrop. The various cultural customs in the city have shaped Kuala Lumpur into a combination of cultural heritage and modern conveniences. Elegant colonial buildings contrast with soaring modern edifices, such as the twin Petronas Towers. Among the centre is the National Museum, which offers various types of artefacts and paintings collected throughout the country. Another venue is the Kuala Lumpur Philharmonic Hall, comprising a cast of international musicians and features regular concerts, chamber concerts and traditional cultural performances.
Food and Drink
The ethnic mix in Kuala Lumpur means it is a hotbed for world cuisine and is quickly making its mark as a culinary capital. There is food to suit all budgets, ranging from Hawker centres to fine dining at exclusive restaurants. Most Hawker Centres are open 24 hours, and serve every type of food in Malaysia - perfect after a great night of entertainment! The array of fine dining restaurants serve everything from the best of Mediterranean fare to the most exotic of Chinese cuisines.
Nightlife
The city is a hub for leisure and entertainment. The numerous night markets scattered around the city are crowded and atmospheric, buzzing with sounds of haggling and portable stereos. When its time to move on to indoor entertainment, Kuala Lumpur has everything from cosy and conversational atmospheres to edgy establishments bursting with energetic clubbers. The Golden Triangle and Bangsar areas are the places to head to for bars and dancing.
Festivals
Malaysian festivals are often colourful occasions with a religious or national significance. Hari Kebangsaan, or National Day, sees a large celebration in Kuala Lumpur on 31 August, with a parade of impressive floats and partying.
Shopping
Deluxe shopping centres, bazaars and night markets offer a choice of local collectibles as well as designer labels. Browsing in the street markets is atmospheric and unpredictable and as business hours run into the night, there is time to head indoors to the shopping malls. Berjaya Times Square is the largest shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur and among the world's top ten largest. The Malaysian Mega Sale Carnival, held in August, is a celebration not to be missed.
